Buying nonsense

Today i claimed money from the research grant i get every year as long as im doing my phd. it's quite some money. i can use it literally for everything i want as long as i can justify the expenses. i can buy a car (as a gift to one my informants), a laptop so that i can write my field notes and my bloody phd, and books, and pay conference fees, and so on and so on. the thing is there is a deadline by when all claims for a year have to be made. that one was today. and i had money left. so what i did over the last few days was basically to think about how i could spend the money and i wouldnt lose it. hm, wouldnt be so bad if i had something useful i could spend it on. what i did was to buy even more books that take space away and can catch dust. the thing is really that i just spent money to get rid of it. there isnt any chance to save it and spend it next year or so. this is the whole problem with these kinds of budgets. they are spent sometimes without any need. i dont want to know how much money is spent every in the way i did it. just for the purpose of spending it and not to lose anything. i have one advantage tho that my grant wont be reduced next financial year for the amount i didnt spend in the preceeding year. this sometimes happens to other budgets. it's a shame and not very economical. or efficient. there should be some possibility of saving money and carrying over to the next year. but who does listen to me? if i had something to say here everything would be different.... but luckily i havent. good.
