I forgot to say something. At the departmental reception the head of department gave a speech (inevitably) and just said that sociologists are those guys who are in suits but look rather disgusted from it.
they only wear cord jackets if at all as social workers do ... (at least in germany, and it is a strong prejudice). or jackets with patches on the elbow parts...
